As close, ongoing collaborators our work together documents site specific improvisation with film, projection, and stills. From a movement perspective, Nicola's sinuous improvisations elicit a direct emotional and kinetic response to a site-specific environment. From a documentation perspective, Chelsy's sensuous dream-like aesthetic, inspires a unique feeling of contemporary nostalgia. We often make work through long, singular takes and without the use of a monitor for review - creating a feeling of being a fly on the wall rather than watching a performance.

Immersed in a total video environment, we wanted to project the viewer into a vast, hypnotic state of flux. Choreography in a world without gravity. One weightless body glides through suspended luminous particles dancing in the water. Sub Rosa was born on an underwater stage-like sandstone shelf extending from the shore of Rabbit Island - a remote, undeveloped island 3 miles off the coast of Michigan in Lake Superior, USA. Our aim in making Sub Rosa was to create a viewing experience that pays equal focus to performer and environment, highlighting conservation and the symbiotic relationship between subject and setting. Kill nothing but time, and take nothing but footage.
